Billed as an 'intellectual horror' by some commentators, The King is Alive is the fourth Dogme feature to be made, and the first with a predominantly American cast. The story revolves around a group of passengers whose bus breaks down in the middle of the Namibian desert. With little to amuse themselves until help arrives, the group - thanks to one of their numbers inherent love of theatre - decide to stage an adaptation of King Lear. What starts out as a means to whittle away their days soon becomes something else entirely. A dark and at times disturbing film, the King is Alive offers a glimpse the devastating effects that our unchecked emotions can wreak.
