The lives of several characters intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. Jules and Vincent are hitmen, Mia Wallace's is their boss's wife, Butch is a troubled boxer and Pumpkin and Honey Bunny are armed robbers who are very much in love.

Tarantino's debut, Reservoir Dogs, put him on the list of talent's to watch. Pulp Fiction established him as a star. All Tarantino's trademarks are on display, the fast-paced sweary dialogue, the extreme violence, and the references to pop culture.

Pulp Fiction earned Tarantino his first Oscar for Best Screenplay, and even twenty three years after the film's initial release the dialogue still holds up. Samuel L. Jackson delivering Jules' bible verse will terrify you in the best possible way, and Christopher Walken's story about the watch will hold you captivated.

John Travolta's career was resurrected with this film. He has starred in many iconic dance scenes over the years, but his scene at the twist contest alongside Uma Thurman is right up there. Although looking back on it now, there's something quaint about thinking $5 is expensive for a milkshake.

The non-linear time line may require repeat viewings to get your heard round, but it's a film you will want to return to. Many of the scenes will seem familiar, even if you've never seen the film before. That speaks to both the enduring popularity of the film but also the many filmmakers who have tried to imitate Tarantino's style. It isn't a film for everyone but, for those who aren't put off, it's a brilliant watch.
