Filmed in a semi-documentary style, Bana plays 'Chopper' - an incompetent but savagely violent criminal whose only wish is to be remembered as an arch tough guy. Based on the life and crimes of Mark Read (who claims to have murdered 19 people and now is one of Australia's best selling authors), Chopper is a bleak character study that is masterfully offset by darkly humorous asides. Bana is remarkable, while director Dominik displays a strong sense of stylistics, which adds another dimension to the proceedings.
