What's in a name?

Between the drag queens that sing about it poppin' and movements with fuzzy pink hats inspired by it, the word 'Pussy' has begun to be reclaimed by the people who want to use it for good, not for evil. And that's basically why Kravitz wanted to keep the full word in her movie title, rather than treat it as a bleeped out expletive.

The 'The Batman' actress is set to make her directorial debut with 'Pussy Island' in 2023 starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum. One thing she was adamant about with this movie was that the word 'Pussy' wouldn't be reduced to two letters with asterisks in the middle, like a curse word. And if you don't like the name of the film, you can bleep off.

In conversation with The Wall Street Journal, Kravitz discussed where the name came from and why it's so important to the film "It represents this time where it would be acceptable for a group of men to call a place that, and the illusion that we’re out of that time now".

In a post 'Me Too' era, Kravitz is rejecting the patriarchal weaponisation of the word and the film itself was inspired by stories of wealthy men attempting to bring women to isolate islands in pursuit of debauchery and whatever goes along with it. Now Kravitz film will follow her version of that reality.

According to her, the concept for the film was a product of the "anger and frustration around the lack of conversation about the treatment of women, specifically in industries that have a lot of money in them, like Hollywood, the tech world, all of that".

Sounds like it's going be one powerful movie for a directorial debut, right?
