Zac Efron has led a varied career since his breakthrough with the cringe but binge-worthy 'High School Musical' series.
He's never totally abandoned his musical roots, starring in the likes of 'Hairspray' and 'The Greatest Showman' over the years.
Efron also loves exercising his comedic chops, and while some have been stinkers *coughs* 'Dirty Grandpa' *coughs*, the likes of 'Bad Neighbours', 'That Awkward Moment' and 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates' proved fun. And let's not forget that very funny cameo in 'The Disaster Artist'.
Efron has also delved into drama a little more of late, in such films as 'Me and Orson Welles, 'The Paperboy' and most recently, 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.'
These are what we think have been his top five scenes to date.
5. 'High School Musical 2' - "Bet On It"
Here, we weren't going to have a Zac Efron countdown and not include 'High School Musical'. And arguably the second, which is the cheesiest and most non sensical of the lot, is its most fun. Zac Efron's Troy Bolton has a number of solos across the series, each expressing his anxiety at the events occurring around him. But he probably peaked singing to his own CGI reflection in "Bet On It." Here, when we said "best scenes", we never said they were the best because of the acting, right?
4. 'Baywatch' - The big boy competition
'Baywatch' not only demonstrated Zac Efron's knack for comedy. It also required, erm, a more physical preparation and acting. Now, matching up to Dwayne Johnson on the big screen was never going to be an easy task. But Efron holds his own in the Big Boy competition scene in which the two face off in some gruelling athletic tasks, all the while spouting some very funny trash talk.
3. 'The Greatest Showman' - "Rewrite the Stars"
'The Greatest Showman' was a surprise hit at the box office - thewn again, you can't beat that musical fandom. It also reminded the world of what musical talents the likes of Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Zendaya are. Efron gets a couple of great duets - "The Other Side" with the former and "Rewrite the Stars" with the latter. We chose "Rewrite the stars", however, as it's a romantic ballad that demonstrates the charisma and irresistibility Efron's characters exhibit opposite his on screen partners. Also Zendaya is just fabulous here.
2. 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile' - The confession
Taking on the role of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy was a always going to be a major challenge. But in fairness, Zac Efron stepped up to the plate. He effectively captures the charming nature of Bundy as well as his “crazy eyes” and that obnoxiousness and sense of delusion which those who saw Netflix's 'Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes' will recognise. He’s so convinced of his innocence that he’d almost have you convinced. The movie itself was all over the place but Efron really impressed.
1. '17 Again' - Courtroom scene
We're not crying, you're crying. Out of context, the courtroom scene of '17 Again' won't mean much to you, but Efron really owns this poignant and emotional moment. '17 Again' is a must-see for any Zac Efron fan. The actor plays Mike O'Donnell, a grown man trapped in his younger body (his older self being played by none other than Matthew Perry). At first, Mike relishes the opportunity to be in high school, which was his hey day, again. But as his wife (Leslie Mann) seeks to divorce him and take custody of their two teenage children, he realises there are things that matter more in life.
