Last year's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was one of the most satisfying films we'd seen in quite a while.
An intelligent sci-fi film that had seamless CGI, an incredibly well-written script and a director at the height of his powers - why it was neglected at the Oscars is beyond us, quite frankly.
War of the Planet of the Apes is gearing up for a July 14th, 2017 release and casting is already underway for the follow-up.
Woody Harrelson has been announced as the first new castmember, who'll play a character known as the Colonel. According to screenwriter Mark Bomback, Andy Serkis' CGI-captured ape leader, Caesar, will play a Moses-esque leader who has to raise an army to battle the humans bent on enslaving the now-intelligent apes.
It's an intriguing concept and the fact that Matt Reeves and Mark Bomback are back in the writing and directing gigs is definitely a big plus. Moreover, the expanded focus of the story, i.e. a war between apes and humans, is pretty damn exciting.
We won't know anything more for quite some time, but it's gonna be interesting.
