"I want everybody to come in!"
The famed Oscar-winning actor gave out lots of exciting bits of information about the planned musical sequel - including who she wants to star alongside her.
That 'Sister Act 3' film will soon be gearing up for production, and Lizzo and Nicki Minaj could be part of the cast if Whoopi Goldberg gets her way.
The renowned actor and current chat show host on 'The View' has been talking about the sequel film for quite some time, but recently there's been very positive news about the threequel brewing. The original 'Sister Act', also starring Kathy Najimy and Maggie Smith, proved to be a huge hit back in 1992 and spawned a sequel film 'Back in the Habit' in 1993. 30 years later, a third entry is set for Disney+.
Goldberg recently appeared on Comedy Central’s 'Hell Of A Week With Charlamagne Tha God' where she dropped some *hopeful* nuggets of information about the upcoming film. She said that she hopes to get the script back by the end of October and that she's got some big names attached that she'd love to see join her for part three.
She said: "I want everybody to come in. I want Lizzo to come in. I want everybody. I want the girl with the chest, what’s her name?… Nicki Minaj! I want Nicki to come. I want everybody. I want as many people who want to have some fun, because I really, desperately need to have some fun."
Keke Palmer, who starred in this summer's Jordan Peele mystery 'NOPE', has also been rumoured to be a part of the cast. Goldberg said: I’m going to ask for Keke Palmer to come in. [...] Hopefully, we’ll get it together and get it done sooner rather than later."
Palmer recently retweeted a fan-made poster for 'Sister Act 3' which placed her name and Mette Midler's front and centre. She Tweeted: "God bless y’all for this manifestation over my life. [Disney], this is what they asked for, I’m just here to relay."
Palmer has already pitched herself to Goldberg during an interview on 'The View', and Goldberg replied that she had already chatted with producer Tyler Perry about the possibility of getting her on board.
Last month, both Tyler Perry and Jennifer Lewis chatted about the sequel film with Whoopi Goldberg on 'The View', with the producer saying "We’re off to a great start".
Lizzo and Nicki Minaj joining 'Sister Act 3' could be a possibility, especially considering that Lizzo already paid homage to the franchise during an MTV Awards performance a few years ago.
IMDb has 'Sister Act 3: Kicking the Habit' down as the film's working title.
