It’s the return of The Mummy this weekend in America, as Brendan Fraser again takes on his most financially successful role for a third outing; this time squaring up to Jet Li’s wrong sort emperor, with vanity issues. It’s been widely slaughtered by the critics and Entertainment Weekly hit the nail on the head when they said "Fraser, who at 39 looks perhaps five years older than this kid, needed a wholesome offspring-sidekick like a third arm. Then again, it's not clear that the world needed a third Mummy movie". Variety agreed, punning in with "the time has come for this Mummy franchise to be truly mummified once and for all". Other big opening is the Kevin Costner starring Swing Vote, which has been getting more positive reviews from the elite scribes: The Philadelphia Inquirer called it a "disarming political satire perfectly calibrated to the national mood and to its revitalized star." But The Hollywood Reporter disagreed saying "American democracy has rarely looked worse than in this unfunny and undramatic comedy-drama". The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is expected to knock The Dark Knight off the top of the box office, with Swing Vote landing mid-chart somewhere.
