When it comes to cult cinema classics The Princess Bride has got to be up there with the best of them. Get thee to a DVD player/ streaming site if you haven't seen it yet, because word on the street is that it's coming soon to theatre stage near you.
Starring Cary Elwes (you've seen his face in so many things at this stage you can't not know him), Robin Wright (Forrest Gump, House of Cards), Mandy Patinkin (Criminal Minds, Homeland), Wallace Shawn (Clueless) and Andre the Giant, the film is based on William Goldman's classic fairy tale, with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing (as read by a kindly grandfather).
Anyway, as we were saying earlier, Variety reports that Disney Theatrical Productions will now adapt the tale for the stage, along with Shakespeare in Love, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo and Freaky Friday. Yes, you read that right, it's an inveritable theatre fest.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves now though, we all know what the most important thing is here: They'd better not mess it up, or else we'll have go all Mandy Patinkin on their backsides.
And while we're on the subject, can we please just take a few moments to appreciate such a wonderful film? I mean, it's so good it even warranted it's own Game of Thrones parody. There ain't many who can say that now are there?
WARNING: If the words Red Wedding don't mean anything to you, we'd suggest you don't watch the video below before getting up to date with the TV series....
So, would you like to see Wesley and Buttercup on the big stage? Or should the cherished cinematic classic be left alone? As you wish...
