Could this be the latest hit fantasy flick franchise? Only time will tell but it has a number of figures from a certain hit fantasy franchise behind it already...
This new venture into the genre is written and produced by Peter Jackson of LOTR fame and directed by Christian Rivers, who worked on the VFX for the LOTR trilogy as well as on Jackson’s movies King Kong and The Lovely Bones.
Fellow Jackson collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are co-writers while Walsh is also a producer.
Starring Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar and Irish actor Robert Sheehan, the film is based on Philip Reeves’ book and has been described thusly:
“Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns.
“Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.”
