"I guess it's about a cat."
To be fair to Idris Elba in this clip, nobody can explain the plot to 'Cats'.
Jesus, not even Andrew Lloyd Webber can explain the plot to 'Cats'. Smart people, far more smarter than us or you, can't wrap their heads around the plot to 'Cats'. In short, nobody knows. Maybe that's not important, though. Maybe it's just about the idea of seeing Idris Elba, Margot Robbie and James Corden dressed up like anthropomorphic cats is enough.
Either way, Idris Elba doesn't know what's going on and when Stephen Colbert tried to get him to explain it, he was at least up front about it. "Wow, what a way to throw me under the bus, then...," Elba began, when trying to explain.
"It’s a classic. It’s a big musical. Andrew Lloyd Webber. I guess it’s about a cat...? How am I doing?" Really though, the look of genuine fear on Elba's face as he makes his way through the plot - "...it’s one cat’s journey towards what is, essentially, cat heaven..." - is enough to make you wonder how the press tour for the movie is going to go.
Either way, hearing Idris Elba trying to struggle his way through it all, and also talk about getting flack from Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham about 'Cats', is just great. Also, Dwayne Johnson is no position to slag anyone about bad movie choices. He was in 'The Tooth Fairy'. Jason Statham, meanwhile, was doing weird '90s music videos.
Neither one of them can talk, quite frankly.
