Oh look! It's our music editor John Balfe in a new movie. Oh no wait, that's not John, that's Stephen Merchant. There's no stopping the brains behind Ricky Gervais of late, he's also got his own HBO TV show coming up, Hello Ladies. It's based on his attempts at swooning the opposite sex and if his stand up show was anything to go by, it'll be bloody good. Read more about that over in Sheena's TV quarters.
But here for Merchant stars in what's being touted as one of the best British comedies we've had in yonks. A bit Bridget Jones, a bit Love Actually with a healthy dose of Anna Faris thrown in for good measure, I Give It A Year boasts quite the interesting cast. Minnie Driver (who for once seems to have been given a half decen role) also features. What's also noteworthy is that this flick was penned by Borat's writer. Kicking off with a Best Man's speech capable only of someone as talented as Merchant, this tale centres on newlyweds (played by Rafe Spall and Rose Byrne) who discover fairly sharpish that marriage isn't quite what they'd expected and, to be frank, they're not sure they should even be together at all.
With temptation looming in both of their lives, only one question remains: will they pack it in and go their separate ways or will they put in the work and go the distance?
Having laughed out loud at numerous points throughout this trailer, it's a safe enough bet to say this will be a cracker. I Give It A Year opens here on 8 February 2013.
