Don’t you just love getting those little titbits about renowned classics which shines new light on them?
Well here’s something you may not have known about one of the Christmas season’s most popular movies, Home Alone.
You’ll probably recall how in one scene, after being accidentally left alone while his family go abroad, Kevin McAllister (Macaulay Culkin) starts going through his bullish brother Buzz’s precious cargo.
Among Buzz’s belongings, Kevin finds an air rifle, a pet tarantula, and a framed photo of his girlfriend.
You can watch the scene here to refresh your memory (doesn’t it make you want to go back and watch the movie right now??):
Well the actor who portrayed Buzz, Devin Retray, recently revealed that the producers thought it would be too cruel to use the photo of a real girl for the gag so they went for another option – the photo isn’t of a girl at all.
Devin explains (via NME): “[They] decided it would be unkind to put a girl in that role of just being funny-looking.
“The art director had a son who was more than willing to volunteer for the part. I think if he had known it would become the highest-grossing family comedy of all time, he might have had second thoughts about it.”
Personally we think that’s a pretty great claim to fame – plus a neat story when people are looking for you to share anecdotes around the Christmas table.
