In one of the more interesting movie premises to come our way of late, Her tells the unlikely story of a lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) who, desperate for an emotional connection with someone (or something), falls in love with an artificially created operating system, voiced by Scarlett Johansson ('cause let's face it, if there's one voice you're going to get fuzzy feelings for, it's hers) who has been designed to meet his every need.
One sharp YouTube commenter described it as 'When Harry Met Siri', as a modern day play on the quintessential rom-com When Harry Met Sally.
From the directors of Being John Malkovich, Her will explore our dependency on and obsession with technology, not to mention our emotional connection with it (I recently balled like a baby when my beloved Samsung Galaxy S III with its pretty pink covered went for a dive in a public toilet) in a way that makes you genuinely root for the love between a man and his phone. It's a comedy too so get set for a few inevitable lols.
Of course the premise sounds incredibly odd, but watch the trailer and you too will be convinced of the sparks that fly between the always captivating Joaquin Phoenix (arguably one of the greatest actors working today) and the sultry sounding Samantha (Johansson).
Rooney Mara and one of my favourites, Amy Adams, also star. Fans of Lars and the Real Girl will no doubt be drawn towards this one.
