If the killer turns out to be Bill Murray, that would be one immensely satisfying meta twist.
The premise for 'Happy Death Day' is literally what happens when someone in Hollywood realises that they can rip off 'Groundhog Day' as long as they add in another element and in this case, it's the slasher film. And while we should be completely put off by how derivative it is, there's something oddly charming about the murder mystery element being thrown in with the day-looping.
Coming from the mind of Christopher Landon (who has several 'Paranormal Activity' films under his belt), this is either going to win us over completely or end up a hot mess.
One thing's for sure, we're never going to be able to listen to 50 Cent's 'In Da Club' again after this.
Here's the official synopsis:
Blumhouse (Split, Get Out, Whiplash) produces an original and inventive rewinding thriller in HAPPY DEATH DAY, in which a college student (Jessica Rothe, La La Land) relives the day of her murder with both its unexceptional details and terrifying end until she discovers her killer’s identity.
'Happy Death Day' is scheduled for release in Irish cinemas on October 20th.
