With the first trailer for David Fincher's adaptation of last year's bestselling novel Gone Girl, we got a creepy cover of 'She' made famous by Elvis Costello while Ben Affleck looked panicked while trying to prove his innocence. This time around, said missing wife played by Rosamund Pike narrates her life with Affleck while he goes about denying his involvement in her disappearance, and we get a look at the disturbing world that Gone Girl is set to present.
Based upon Gillian Flynn's global bestseller, Affleck plays Nick Dunne, the husband of Rosamund Pike's Amy Dunne who goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. What happens next is that Nick becomes the prime suspect (as most husbands do in missing wife cases) and somehow becomes 'the most hated man in America', while Neil Patrick Harris gets to get his creep on as just one of the many people seemingly connected to Rosamund's disappeared Amy.
Fincher is clearly aiming to get the spook factor high in the promo for this thriller, which has allegedly had its final act changed completely from the original in the book, so who knows how far down the garden path into typical Hollywood whodunnit territory we're going to go, but so far it's looking good.
Gone Girl is set to hit Irish cinema screens on October 3rd.
