Pirates of the Caribbean and The Ring director Gore Verbinski is to remake the brilliant Korean horror The Host, but only produce and not direct the film. Commercials regular Fredrik Bond will be the one who wields the megaphone, having helmed ad's for Nike and Levi's. Apparently,Verbinski and Bond have been looking for a project to work together on for some time. The fledging features helmer spewed this to Variety on the South Korean smash hit: "It processes a few genres together, and visually it feels close to the stuff I've made over the last few years in commercials, the tonality of humour and the scale." Original story follows a town terrorized by a giant mutant squidlike creature hatched by toxins that flow into a nearby river from a military base. When it takes a young girl, her family must put aside their squabbles to try and save her.
