The movie spans four decades of the actor's life and career
The trailer for 'Val' has dropped on Youtube the day before its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The movie spans four decades of the life and career of actor Val Kilmer.
From an early point in his career, Kilmer started documenting his life through a video camera, and made 16 mm home movies with his brother.
The doc was pulled together from thousands of hours of footage.
Kilmer is known for starring in such iconic blockbusters as 'Top Gun', 'Batman Forever', 'Tombstone' and 'The Doors'.
Aside from a young Val Kilmer, audiences will also spot his pals Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon in the trailer.
The movie will see the actor open up about his throat cancer diagnosis, with footage towards the end of the emotional trailer showing him struggling to speak.
In the 2 and a half minute preview he talks about having "lived a magical life and captured quite a bit of it."
He adds: "I spent decades finding my voice through characters... I’ve tried to see the world as one piece of life."
Regarding his diagnosis, he said it made him want to tell his story now more than ever.
Leo Scott and Ting Poo directed the doc.
Its Irish release is TBC. In the US, it hits theatres July 23th and releases on Prime Video on August 6th.
