Is 'Us' a sequel-of-sorts to 'Get Out'? What's up with the scissors?

Jordan Peele's follow-up to 'Get Out' has been shrouded in mystery, but with the movie's release set for March 22nd, there's some more footage on its way in the form of a new trailer.

The trailer debuted at Superbowl and also on Reddit of all places, with Jordan Peele launching his own subreddit for Monkeypaw Productions. Peele is also involved with the reboot of 'The Twilight Zone', which also got a trailer at Superbowl.

Here's the trailer for 'Us'.

So what's going on with it all? Honestly, no idea. Already, people are seeing all sorts of hidden clues in the trailer's fast cuts that they didn't see before. For example, there's this part at the very start of the trailer that's just a little bit terrifying.

If you can make that out that phrase, it says 'Jeremiah 11:11'. It's a passage from the Bible which reads as follows: "Therefore thus said the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry to me, I will not listen to them."

Yeah, that's terrifying. Now look at the very next scene. What's that scratched on the woman's head? '11 11'.

Then there's this scene here which seems to freak out Lupita Nyong'o's character. We checked out any references to a gold star in a red field and the only thing we could find was either the flag of Vietnam, or a type of flower called Hypoxis. It's a plant that's used in traditional African medicine and is also used in pharmaceutical preparations. Other than that, nothing we can find yet. There's no mention or sighting of it in 'Get Out' either.

Then there's this moment. Our guess is that it's Elisabeth Moss, judging by the colour and shape of her hair. Going by the red jumpsuit thing she's wearing, it's the same thing that happened to the family - i.e., weird clones of themselves going crazy.

After that, there's this moment here with the scissors. Scissors come up a lot in all the marketing material we've seen for 'Us', but your guess is as good as ours. The only thing we can think of is the fact that scissors work in a pair. One side has to move with the other in order for to be effective. So maybe it's about one side and the other side of the family? Literally spit-balling here, people.

Next up is this moment right here. The yacht's name is "B'yacht'ch", which is a great name for a boat. What's up with the red light inside? It's almost the same colour as their jumpsuits, so is it connected?

Here's another terrifying moment in the trailer. Now, our guess is that the weird clones of themselves are the worst part of their personalities amplified up to eleven. For example, the little lad is always seen wearing a monster mask throughout the trailer, and then his weird clone has some kind of surgical mask on at all times. Lupita Nyong'o's character is carrying a poker from a fireplace whilst her weird clone is the one with the scissors.

So, what does any of it mean? Does it have anything to do with 'Get Out' or is its own thing? No idea. The tone definitely appears to be similar to 'Get Out' and you get the sense that it's going to be dealing with a lot of the same kind of 'social horror' that it had before.

There's also the rorschach thing that keeps cropping up in all of the posters, not to mention the fact that they're shaped like people's faces in this trailer. Also, the tagline 'Watch Yourself' seems to add a lot to what our theory about the idea of how their personalities are amplified in the weird clones.

Of course, there's a good chance we're utterly wrong about all of this. Either way, we'll know soon enough.

'Us' arrives in Irish cinemas on March 22nd.
