Ben Stiller’s latest laugh riot Tropic Thunder had already garnered its fair share of controversy even when it was just shooting, when it was revealed that Robert Downey Jnr. would play a character that undergoes surgery to make himself black for a role. But the critics predictably raved about the brilliant actor’s daring performance; now folk from Dreamworks (who funded the flick) will meet representatives of more than a half dozen disabilities organizations to discuss the groups’concerns about the portrayal of a developmentally handicapped character in a film within a film that is referred to as a "retard". This of course is all still publicity for the film, which is reportedly the most expensive R rated comedy of all time. Stiller directs and co-wrote the war send-up, which has had hugely positive buzz, and marks his first foray behind the camera since the classic Zoolander.
