Terence Malick's latest opus, Tree of Life, is fiercely dividing critics after premiering at Cannes.
Heavily influential publications like The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and The Huffington Post have praised the film with the words, "brilliant" and "masterpiece" thrown around. Other critics weren't so impressed, with the reliable Drew McWeeny at Hitfix.com saying it "reaches for greatness and misses." It's obvious that scribes are having deeply personal reactions to the Brad Pitt/Sean Penn starring flick, which seems to be how the film was intended to received.
It was due to open here earlier this month, but it's looking like more of a mid-summer bow for the film. I'm personally dying to see it - looks gorgeous. Those idiots they booed at Cannes need to be severely beaten with sacks of popcorn.
