The untitled sixth instalment of the Transformers series has disappeared without a trace from the Paramount release schedule. This film was originally set to arrive in 2019.
The news comes in the wake of the last Transformers movie, The Last Knight, being less successful than producers hoped. Released last summer, it made $605 million worldwide, which was well below the $1.104 billion made by its predecessor, 2014's The Age of Extinction, and $104 million less than the first movie made back in 2007.
Interest in the series thus seems to be waning (which is just as well because they’re awful movies) but mind you, this might not be the end.
The fact that spin-off movie Bumblebee, starring Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena, is due out later this year heavily implies that hope hasn’t been totally lost for the franchise. According to Transformer World, Paramount intends to ‘reset’, namely reboot, the franchise.
The website also stated that “the new agreement with Paramount will have Hasbro having greater control of the movies including greenlighting the movie projects. $100-$125 Million will be spent by Hasbro for Film and TV content in 2018.”
