The 'Super Size Me' follow-up arrives 15 years after the original

The trailer for 'Super Size Me 2' has gone live - two years after the movie debuted.

'Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!' originally premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

YouTube Red was its distributor but they dropped it after Morgan Spurlock, who was also behind the original 2004 hit doc 'Super Size Me', revealed his history of sexual harassment and marital infidelity via Twitter.

This week, Samuel Goldwyn Films agreed to partner with Spurlock and distribute the documentary. It hits theatres and digital on September 13 though no Irish cinema release date has been confirmed.

'Super Size Me' saw Spurlock explore the unethical farming practices and craven profiteering of American fast food companies. He subjected himself to a 30-day diet of nothing but McDonald’s to demonstrate the effects of fast food eating.

This time around, Spurlock investigates "healthy" and "organic" fast food. He opens his own pop-up chicken joint in an effort to investigate how the fast food industry markets "the most eaten animal on the planet."

It's a timely film with people being more driven towards healthy eating than ever before. But whether Spurlock's past impacts the breadth of distribution and its success at the box office has yet to be seen.
