Although he's never going to win an Oscar, Arnold Schwarzenegger is still - after almost forty years in the business - one of the most recognisable actors in the world today.

It's not just down his impressive physical presence or his unique accent, Schwarzenegger was able to imbue emotion - or lack thereof - like none other. While he might have taken time off from his acting career to lead one of the largest economies in the world, he's now intent on making a comeback and has slightly less success with it than he's had previously.

With that in mind, here's our pick of his five best scenes.

5. TOTAL RECALL - "What have you been feeding this thing?"

Blondes. It's the matter-of-factness, the sheer lack of awareness that Schwarzenegger responds to the question that cracks us up every time in this scene. Originally intended as a sort-of sequel to Ridley Scott's artistic Blade Runner, Total Recall quickly degenerated into Paul Verhoeven's crazed, consumerist and satirical feature. Schwarzenegger looked like he didn't have a clue what was going half the time. Maybe that was the point.

4. KINDERGARTEN COP - "It's not a tumour!"

For all the guff that Arnold Schwarzenegger gets, one thing's for certain - he could be extremely funny when he wanted to be. Playing an exasperated cop who goes undercover in a children's school, the only way Schwarzenegger's character could interrogate his students was by playing a game. A wonderful game called Who Is Your Daddy and What Does He Do.

3. BATMAN & ROBIN - All of Mr. Freeze's scenes

It's so clear now that Batman & Robin was aiming for the '60s Batman of Adam West and not Tim Burton's version or even Batman Forever's neon-drenched landscapes. No, here, it was a cartoon. In fact, before each scene, Joel Schumacher reportedly reminded the cast of this fact before rolling the camera. How else was Arnold Schwarzenegger supposed to deliver pun-tastic lines like these without that kind of freedom?

2. TERMINATOR - "I'll be back."

One of the main reasons why the first Terminator was so frightening was just how icily Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered his lines. There really was a deadness to his performance that you couldn't fake and certainly couldn't emulate. It's what made him so effective. This key scene from the original, which sees him lay waste to an entire police station, borrows elements from horror and action cinema. However, it's Schwarzenegger's blank expression throughout it all that really sells it all.

1. TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY - "I know now why you cry, but it's something I could never do."

There's very few films that end on such a perfect note like Terminator 2: Judgement Day. It's arguably one of the best endings in modern cinema and gives a surprisingly emotional end to a film that was relentless action throughout. It's in such stark contrast to what's come before that it's almost a shock to experience it. It's not just the act of self-sacrifice, but the fact that the T-800 has learned what it is to be human in his final moments. After all, he was a learning computer. He could experience and understand emotions, but not process them himself. That, in a way, made it all the more emotional when he meets his end with a solitary thumbs up.
