In your face, Christopher Nolan.
Considering how the first 'Suicide Squad' - that's the David Ayer one from a couple of years ago - has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 26%, it's safe to say that director James Gunn wouldn't have a hard time improving on that.
However, the latest figures indicate that 'The Suicide Squad' now has a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than vaunted comic-book blockbuster 'The Dark Knight'. As of writing, James Gunn's movie has a 97% score, while 'The Dark Knight has a 94% score. Of course, with 'Rotten Tomatoes', there's a couple of caveats with those figures.
Rotten Tomatoes counts scores on whether they're positive or negative - or fresh or rotten. It doesn't factor the individual score of each review, so if something received a lot of three-star reviews or B-rated reviews, it could still have a high score because the majority of the reviews are positive, even if they're not ecstatic. That doesn't seem to be the case with 'The Suicide Squad', however. Time Out, Nerdist, the London Evening Standard, and Empire Magazine all gave it high scores, and the movie is expected to enjoy box office glory this weekend.
Given all of this, however, it remains to be seen whether or not James Gunn will stay on for the inevitable sequel. After all, Gunn is set to begin production on 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3' any day now, and who knows if he wants to go back to comic-book movies after this, given how he's claimed they're now "boring" to him.
