The intriguing sounding Irish film, The Guard, is to open the International Competition at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
The flick stars the ever brilliant Brendan Gleeson as a local copper in small town Ireland, who has his nose put out of joint when Don Cheadle's FBI Agent turns up to investigate a drug smuggling ring. It's directed by John Michael McDonagh, who is the brother of recent Oscar nominee (for In Bruges) writer/director, Martin McDonagh; this is his first feature as a director, but he previously penned Ned Kelly. Hopefully we can expect a similar level of dark laughs and smarts akin to In Bruges.
The 2011 Sundance Film Festival runs from January 20-30th. Good luck to all involved with the film in the competition - looking forward to seeing it.
