Spielberg's semi-autobiographical new project
Steven Spielberg's upcoming film based on his own childhood 'The Fabelmans' has got its first nostalgia-fuelled trailer.
The film, a semi-autobiographical take on the legendary filmmaker's life is co-written, directed and co-produced by Spielberg. Alongside him is longtime collaborator Tony Kushner who also co-wrote and co-produced.
The coming-of-age drama stars Gabriele LaBell as Sammy Fabelman, a boy with dreams of becoming a director in post-WWII Arizona. Michelle Williams stars as his mother Mitzi, a pianist who encourages Sammy to follow his dreams. Paul Dano also stars as Sammy's father Burt, a more practical-minded engineer.
As with many of his previous films, Spielberg focuses on childhood with a particular look at the mother-son relationship and absent fathers. The movie follows Sammy's journey aged 7 to 18 in what looks like a very poignant and personal reflection of Spielberg's own childhood.
Starring alongside LaBell, Williams and Dano is Julia Butters, Oakes Fegley, and Seth Rogen. Robin Bartlett, Keeley Karsten, Judd Hirsch, Gabriel Bateman, and Jeannie Berlin also star.
Another legendary director David Lynch features in the film. However, his role is still under wraps and he doesn't appear in the trailer.
The movie once again reunites Spielberg with legendary composer John Williams. The 90-year-old has teamed up with the director on many occasions, producing some of the most celebrated musical scores in films like 'Jaws', 'ET', 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind', 'Schindler's List' and 'Jurassic Park'.
