1998's Blade is an underrated comic-book actioner that's now sadly overlooked, thanks to Wesley Snipes' plummeting career and recent issues with the tax man.

If you go back and take a look, you'll see that it's a well-crafted romp with some fantastic setpieces that really do stand the test of time. Case in point is the opening 'Blood Rave' sequence, which sees a hapless partygoer brought to an underground rave.

Everything seems more or less as you'd expect in a rave, half-naked people dancing to hard techno, people performing oral sex on one another and so on. Pretty soon, however, it turns nasty when blood is shot out of the sprinkler system and the rave is revealed to be a vampire coven.

Here's the scene in question, to refresh your memory.

As it turns out, Amsterdam will soon be host to a real-world recreation of this scene. Organisers are planning a 'Blood Rave' for October 31st in an undisclosed location somewhere in Amsterdam.

The plan is to have actual blood shoot out of the sprinklers during the show, which organisers say they have already tested using a blood-like substance. So, who would actually go to such an event?

Quite a few, as it turns out. Over 1,800 people have already signed up to the Facebook event, despite calls from animal rights activists and church groups to ban the whole thing.

As much as we liked Blade, the idea of staging an entire night around that one scene seems a little mad. Plus, we have it on good authority that when blood congeals, it smells absolutely rank.

So, y'know, good luck with that.
