Even the actor sitting next to Liam Neeson couldn't handle it.
Liam Neeson gave an interview with the UK Independent that is, quite frankly, bizarre and frightening - and really can't be condensed into a single headline.
The actor was giving a standard junket interview for his upcoming movie, 'Cold Pursuit', with a journalist when Neeson recounted a story concerning a close friend of his who was raped by a black man. Neeson described how the woman "dealt with the situation extraordinarily," however Neeson's way of dealing with it was different - to put it mildly.
"I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody – I’m ashamed to say that – and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some (Neeson gestures air quotes with his fingers) ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could... kill him."
Yup, that's Oscar-nominated actor Liam Neeson talking about killing a random black man because his female friend was raped by a black man. He admitted that right in the middle of a press junket interview. Neeson went on, explaining that it took him "a week, a week and a half" to go through it, and that "(it) was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that."
There's even a moment when Tom Bateman, the actor sat next to Liam Neeson, interjects with a literal "Holy shit" moment. It's nuts. Here's a link to the full interview article.
As you can expect, the social media reaction to Neeson's admission was decidedly... abrupt.
I know this isn't really the point but 5 seconds into that Liam Neeson anecdote and, as a publicist, I'm hitting the fire alarm. Sprinklers on, everyone evacuates.
