Ryan and Andy Tohill directed 2018's 'The Dig', starring Moe Dunford.
As horror franchises go, 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' is up there with the likes of 'Halloween' and 'Scream'.
It's inspired countless copycats, and even some movies you wouldn't even think of. Ridley Scott, for example, was inspired to make 'Alien' after seeing 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'. That being said, there's no denying that precious few of the sequels / reboots / spin-offs that followed lived up to the original.
For example, there was the utterly batshit sequel with Dennis Hooper, the crappy '90s remake with Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellwegger (look it up, it's awful) and the more recent one with Scott Eastwood and Alexandra Daddario.
Still, there's clearly a market for them, with Lionsgate ramping up production on a new remake wit none other than Ryan and Andy Tohill set to direct, with 'Don't Breathe' director Fede Alvarez as executive producer.
Ryan and Andy Tohill directed 2018's 'The Dig', which starred Moe Dunford and was filmed in Ballymena, Co. Antrim. As well as this, 'The Dig' also won Best Film at the Galway Film Fleadh and had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
No release date has been set for the remake, and plot details are kept tightly under wraps, but you can imagine it's going to be pretty severe stuff. In a statement given to Variety, Alvarez explained why the Tohills were chosen to helm the remake. "The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want. It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever."
That's a pretty bold statement, considering how utterly f*cked up previous entries have been.
