There's only room enough for one Taylor
'Twilight: New Moon' director Chris Weitz says he regrets not allowing Taylor Swift to feature in the franchise.
In an interview on the Twilight Effect podcast, hosted by Ashley Greene who played Alice Cullen, the director said Swift had requested to be an extra in the 2009 film.
"Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time, and he said, 'Taylor would like to be in this movie – not because of you, but she’s a Twi-hard,'" Weitz said during the episode.
However, despite Swift only wanting to appear as "someone at the cafeteria, or the diner, or whatever," Weitz thought her presence in the film would be too distracting. Which is, of course, entirely fair.
"The hardest thing for me was to be like, the moment that Taylor Swift walks onto the screen, for about five minutes, nobody is going to be able to process anything," he said.
Does he regret his decision though? Only slightly, and probably not for sacrificing his art because of a mega-famous superfan.
"I kick myself for it too, because – I was like, 'Wow, I could've been hanging out with Taylor Swift.'"
"She must have been like, 'Who is this jerk?" he added. "But sometimes you make decisions thinking this is for the best of the film."
'Twilight: New Moon' is the sequel to the first film in the Twilight saga. It was received negatively by critics but is well-regarded by fans of the saga. The film was Weitz's only directing contribution to the franchise. David Slade took over directing duties for the follow-up 'Eclipse'.
Swift is set to appear in the upcoming film 'Amsterdam' starring Margot Robbie, Christian Bale and John David Washington.
