Hand over the claws, Hugh
Welsh actor Taron Egerton has revealed he has talked to Marvel about taking over the Wolverine role.
The 'Rocketman' star told the New York Times that he had met with Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, to discuss the possibility of playing the much-loved 'X-Men' character.
"I don't think it would be wrong to say that," Egerton said about talks with the studio. "I'd be excited but I'd be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I'd wonder if it'd be very difficult for someone else to do it."
The return of the 'X-Men' franchise has been unclear since 20th Century Fox was brought by Disney in 2019. However, rumours and online discussions have ramped up recently.
"Hopefully if it does come around, they'll give me a shot," said the 32-year-old.
Last week, 'Avengers: Endgame' directors the Russo Brothers said they would "love to see" Chris Evans in the role as Wolverine.
Daniel Radcliffe has also been linked to the role recently. The 'Harry Potter' star revealed the rumour "comes up every so often" on a recent press tour. "Any comparison that implies me being even remotely in the same world as Hugh Jackman is inherently flattering."
Egerton, however, does have a past connection. The actor starred in the 'Kingsmen' franchise, directed by 'X-Men: First Class' director Matthew Vaughn.
Vaughn has stated before he would love to have another go at the franchise, stating Wolverine as the character he'd most want to reboot. His choice for the mutton-chopped hero? Taron Egerton.
"I think Taron Egerton could do it in his sleep. Aaron Taylor-Johnson could do it as well. I think Aaron or Taron would be my first two choices who could do it really well."
Egerton currently stars in 'Black Bird', out now on Apple TV+.
