The Kiwi director's latest film is 'Next Goal Wins'
He has directed two of the four 'Thor' movies to great success- but Taika Waititi is taking a step back from big budget films, if his recent comments are anything to go by.
The Kiwi writer, director and actor has confirmed that he will not be directing 'Thor 5' in a new interview with Business Insider.
After working with star Chris Hemsworth on 2017's 'Thor: Ragnarok' and 2022's 'Thor: Love and Thunder', Waititi responded to speculation regarding his involvement in the upcoming fifth film.
"I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate," he said. "I know that I won’t be involved."
He added that he intended to concentrate on projects he's currently involved in, including an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel 'Klara and the Sun' and a film from the 'Star Wars' universe.
Waititi, who came to prominence via indie films like 'Eagle Vs. Shark' and his Oscar-nominated short 'Two Cars, One Night', is currently promoting his new film 'Next Goal Wins' and in another interview with THR, made a rather telling comment regarding blockbuster films.
"I don’t know," he said at the Los Angeles premiere last night. "I’m a bit fatigued by working on those big films, studio films, which is why I’ve come back to do smaller films like this; my next film will be a smaller one."
However, he insinuated that the door was not fully closed to that world, saying "there’s always a place for them and they’re always inspirational. As a little kid, those are the things I loved, going to see these big movies set in outer space to take a great escape from where we are. So I hope they continue."
