Oscar winning director Steven Soderbergh is to shoot an "all out action film" starring female mixed martial artist, Gina Carano called Knockout. According to Variety, production on the intriguing sounding film will start in January, while parts of it will be shot here In Ireland. Carano, who lost her first fight last month, taking her to 7-1, is heavily trained in Muay Thai, and considered the face of the female side of the fast-growing sport. Soderbergh will wave an upfront fee for directing the film, about a girl who gets a second chance to use her scrapping skills productively, in exchange for part ownership of the production. MMA is the fasted growing sport on earth and generally one of the most exciting also. Soderbergh obviously sees a market there, and with his obvious ability behind the camera, this could really be a movie that lives up to its title.
