Steven Soderbergh has been yapping to Empire Online about his proposed action movie Knockout. He describes the film as a spy thriller, and spoke about casting it's female MMA star Gina Carano: "If you start following the female MMA fighters, Gina pops out pretty noticeably," said the Oscar winning director. "I thought it was a fascinating combination of appearance and activity (she's hot... and she could beat the crap out of you). I’d been wanting to make a spy action film for a while, but hadn’t really determined what I was going to bring to it that would distinguish it from the traditional approach. Then I thought, ‘Why don’t I just build it around her? She can actually break people in half.’ I was interested in doing something ultra-realistic." This sounds pretty great so far. Soderbergh is never afraid to try something new, and is probably the most fearless director in Hollywood right now; him going for an out-and-out action flick is intriguing to say the least. The film starts shooting early 2010, so let's hope Gina Carano can act as well as she fights.
