A title which was previously held by 'Avengers: Endgame'
So we guess everybody was desperate to see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield popping up in this trailer, huh?
Sony and Marvel Studios have a big, BIG release on their hands this year. The recent 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' trailer has set the record of the most-viewed movie trailer of all time within a 24-hour period.
Released to the masses on Monday evening, following a leak earlier in the day, the trailer was viewed 355.5 million times globally in its first 24 hours.
The previous holder of the title was the culmination of Marvel's Phase Three, 'Avengers: Endgame', which was able to clinch 289 million views in its first 24 hours back in 2019.
Not only that, but the 'No Way Home' trailer record figures are more than double that of the previous entry in the Tom Holland-led franchise. When the 'Far From Home' trailer was released - also in 2019 - it managed to draw 135 million in its first day.
Clearly, Sony's movie is going to be a big one. It's not surprising really when rumours of a live-action Spider-Man multiverse have been circling the movie for quite some time. Before the trailer dropped on Monday, #NoWayHome had been trending numerous times on Twitter for weeks as fans' Spider-Sense indicated the trailer's imminent release. Then, when the footage was leaked hours before the official trailer, the social media site went into a meltdown as fans scrambled to watch the low-quality bootleg version.
What the trailer delivered was just enough to whet our appetite. Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus from 'Spider-Man 2' was the only confirmed villain to appear in the trailer; however, there were teases of the return of Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx's Electro, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard and Thomas Haden Church as The Sandman, with all signs pointing towards a Sinister Six formation. But who could the sixth member of this supervillain team-up be? We're betting on the return of one of Peter Parker's recent adversaries - either Michael Keaton's Vulture or Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio. Or, we could get a curveball of a brand-new villain.
The biggest question mark of the piece, however, is whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear as their respective Spider-Men from the past. Plus, was Miles Morales teased too? Of course, but we'll have to wait until the movie releases on December 17 to find out for sure.
