6. GUNS IN THE HEATHER (1969)

Starring Kurt Russell, Fair City's Eamonn Morrisey, and Glenn Corbett, Guns In The Heather - which was released in Europe as The Secret Of Boyne Castle - was filmed almost entirely on location in Clare. St. Flannan's College was one location, where Kurt Russell's character was a student. In the film, Russell is even seen playing hurling - which is really weird when you think about it. Snake Plissken playing hurling. It happened, people.

5. THE MACKINTOSH MAN (1973)

This Cold War spy-thriller saw Paul Newman playing an agent who's convicted of stealing jewels, only to be sent to prison where he meets a KGB informant. The film culminates in a chase that begins, funnily enough in Roundstone Co. Galway, and culminates in Clare. Yes, they actually managed to get it right across county borders. Basically, Newman is being chased by agents and one of them manages to drive their very flashy Mercedes-Benz off the Cliffs of Moher. Not surprisingly for back then, they really did hurl a Mercedes-Benz off the Cliffs Of Moher - much to director John Huston's delight.

4. THE SERPENT'S KISS (1997)

Although it wasn't hugely well-known or screened widely, The Serpent's Kiss does have a connection to Clare - Sixmilebridge, specifically - as large portions of the film were made there. Not only that, there's apparently still screws left in the nearby Bridge of Ross from where cameras were mounted to the rock-face. The film was directed by French cinematographer Philippe Rousselot, who went on to work on the likes of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, The Nice Guys, Tim Burton's Planet Of The Apes, and both of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films, and starred a young Ewan McGregor and Richard E. Grant.

3. INTO THE WEST (1992)

Although the film tracks across all of Ireland, it culminates at - you guessed it - the Cliffs of Moher, where the fabled horse Tir na nÓg tries to leap into the sea and return to his homeland. The cinematography shows the sweeping scale of the cliffs, but there's also a funny coincidence with our next choice. Mike Newell, who directed Into The West, also directed Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire. Harry Potter, as it turns out, has something of a history with Clare.

2. HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE (2009)

Yes, as it turns out, one of Voldemort's horcruxes is actually in Clare. To get the dramatic imagery of Voldemort's cave, director David Yates filmed the Cliffs of Moher's sheer face and raging sea aboard a small ship in choppy seas.

1. THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987)

Yes, as it turns out, the Cliffs Of Insanity are really just the Cliffs Of Moher and a couple of sets. Director Rob Reiner shot the scenes in Clare and then later used a set for the top of the cliffs where Inigo Montoya and Dread Pirate Roberts have their infamous duel. In fairness, if they really did fight at the edge of the real Cliffs of Moher, they'd have gone flying off it.
