Still no word on who's playing Ursula, though.
When you look at the box office success of the likes of 'Aladdin' and 'The Jungle Book', and the anticipation building for 'The Lion King', it was only a matter of time before the live-action train came for 'The Little Mermaid'.
While there's still no word yet on who will play Ariel, THR is now reporting that Scuttle and Flounder - that's the seagull and the yellow fish - have been cast. Awkwafina, who recently turned up in 'Crazy Rich Asians' and will next appear in 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance', has been cast as as Scuttle whilst Flounder will be played by Jacob Tremblay. In the original, Scuttle was voiced by stand-up legend Buddy Hackett, whilst Flounder was voiced by child actor Jason Marin.
So far, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are the first two castings announced, however there's been talk that Melissa McCarthy is currently in the running to play Ursula, the sea-witch who robs Ariel of her voice in exchange for the ability to walk on land. As it stands, nothing's been confirmed on that front and there's no word on who'll be playing Ariel either.
With no release date set as such, it's likely that 'The Little Mermaid' won't swim (heh) into screens until 2021 at the earliest.
