The movie is inspired by the story of real-life fossil hunter Mary Anning.
This is quite the pairing. Mary Queen of Scots star Saoirse Ronan is teaming up with Kate Winslet to star in ‘Ammonite’, a historical drama from ‘God’s Own Country’ writer-director Francis Lee. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman will produce the movie alongside our very own Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly.
The story is set in the 1840’s in a coastal British town where Anning was sent to recover from illness. She meets a young woman and the pair develop an intense relationship which changes their lives. Anning was an influential paleontologist who made key discoveries in the cliffs along the English Channel.
The all-dancing, all-singing Saoirse Ronan is currently promoting the upcoming Mary Queen of Scots, while Winslet has just wrapped ‘Avatar 2’ and in the middle of filming drama ‘Blackbird’.
‘Ammonite’ will begin production in March with no release date confirmed as of yet.
