A Freddie Mercury biopic? Now that's a movie we'd be interested in seeing, but can Sacha Baron Cohen do him justice? Given that the movie's been underway since 2009, with Cohen having already signed on the dotted line, whether you think he's the man for the job or not is neither here nor there; it's happening. Brian May certainly believes he's got the chops. He's definitely got the looks down pat.
May who performed alongside Freddie in Queen seems to be highly involved in the film, releasing a statement with the movie's release details. "I promised news of yesterday's Queen band meeting. Our main agenda was the Freddie film, which I'm happy to tell you is on course," he said. "Much of our discussion was about contractual things, it's pretty complex, and determining who is responsible for what... The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule - filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014. We did make some other plans, but they will have to stay under wraps for now. [Mercury] must be wryly smiling somewhere!"
Written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan, this movie will centre on the years leading up to Queen's 1985 Live Aid gig. Robert De Niro's TriBeCa Productions will co-produce.
