Sad news this morning as it has been announced that actor Burt Young has passed away. He was 83.
Young, who was born Gerald Tommaso DeLouise in New York, was best known for playing Paulie, Rocky's brother-in-law and best friend in the 'Rocky' film series.
His performance in the first 'Rocky' film earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Young - a former Marine who took up boxing while in the Marine Corps - also had roles in films like 'Chinatown', 'Once Upon a Time in America', 'The Gambler', 'Last Exit to Brooklyn' and 'Mickey Blue Eyes', as well as TV shows including 'M*A*S*H*'.
His death in Los Angeles was confirmed by his daughter Anne Morea Steingieser, although no cause was given.
He is survived by his daughter, his grandson and his brother, Robert. His wife Gloria died in 1974.
His 'Rocky' co-star Sylvester Stallone is amongst those who paid tribute to Young, saying "To my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG, you were an incredible man’s and artist, I and the World will miss you very much...RIP."
