Richard Sherman was born in New York in 1928 and grew up in Beverly Hills, California, where he discovered a love of music and after a spell in the US army in the 1950s, he and Robert followed their father Al into the songwriting/music industry.
He is survived by his three children and six grandchildren, and his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth. He died of age-related illnesses on Saturday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
