Details have emerged about the sequel to Blumhouse horror-comedy ‘Happy Death Day’, including its title and release date.
The ‘Groundhog Day’-inspired 2017 movie starred Jessica Rothe as Tree, a college student who gets killed on her birthday. When she comes back to life, it’s her birthday again. She discovers she has to keep living this day and get killed again and again until she identifies the murderer and stops them.
Rothe will return as the film’s lead actor. This time, “Tree discovers that dying over and over again was surprisingly easier than the dangers in her future.”
The sequel will aptly be called ‘Happy Death Day 2U’ and it hits theatres not all that long away on February 14th 2019. Christopher Landon is back as writer and director with Jason Blum producing.
Also back is Israel Broussard, who played Carter, the guy Tree keeps waking up in the room of in the original, while Suraj Sharma (‘Life of Pi’) and Sarah Yarkin have joined the cast.
The follow-up was first announced last May after the film grossed $26 million its opening weekend. It went on to gross over $122 million worldwide on a reported $4.8 million budget.
