If you're wondering why that headline reads as incredulous, it's because we truly are incredulous.

You have to understand that Quentin Tarantino doing a Star Trek movie is one of those rumours that have been circulating almost since the dawn of the Hollywood system. Really. Like "the ghost" in Three Men And A Baby or the "on-screen death" in Ben-Hur, "Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek" has done the rounds for years and was dismissed as just that - rumours.

Yet, for some bizarre and inexplicable reason, it's now coming towards a reality as Deadline reports that Paramout has officially signed Mark L. Smith - screenwriter of Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar-winning survivalist thriller The Revenant - to write a screenplay for Star Trek that will be directed by Quentin Tarantino.

The famed director - who supposedly will retire after he completes Star Trek - had a number of demands that included the fact that his film must be rated R. All of these demands, again per sources from Deadline et al, say that Paramount have agreed enthusiastically to all of them. Meanwhile, JJ Abrams will produce the film alongside Tarantino - however the film will likely not hit cinema screens for another couple of years as he's first got to get through his Not-About-Charles-Manson-But-Set-In-The-Same-Time-And-Area film, which will be released on the fiftieth anniversary of the Tate-LaBianca murders.
