Quentin Tarantino has confirmed that he will retire from filmmaking sooner rather than later.
Speaking at the Adobe Max Creative Conference in San Diego today, Tarantino told the audience that he's calling it a day once he reaches his tenth film.
"Drop the mic. Boom. Tell everybody, 'Match that shit.'" he said to much applause.
The 53 year old director has often spoken in the past about not wanting to stay in the game too long and get stale. He had said that leaving behind a strong body of work was important to him.
“I like that I will leave a 10-film filmography,” he told Time in 2014.
The director had a string of hits with Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained, but his latest effort, The Hateful Eight didn't set audiences alight.
Tarantino teased earlier this year that his next feature film will be a "Bonnie and Clyde-esque" tale set in 1930s Australian. However he told audiences at today's conference that he has not yet set to work on the script for it. He's currently preoccupied with a historical non fiction project.
He also spoke about what he hopes his legacy will be once he does call it quits.
"Hopefully, the way I define success when I finish my career is that I'm considered one of the greatest filmmakers that ever lived. And going further, a great artist, not just filmmaker,"
