Yes, that bloody doll is going to be making a reappearance in your life whether you like it or not. Sorry 'bout that.
James Wan must be questioning his luck, because once again one of his horror films has not only gone on to huge success, but has also spawned a franchise that's going to netting him a pretty penny for the next few years, as New Line and Warner Bros. are reportedly working on three movie and TV spinoffs for The Conjuring. And he might not even have to lift a finger. (He definitely sold his soul to the devil for this forbidden donut career right?)
Based around the multiple cases that the real life Ed and Lorraine Warren (AKA Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring) investigated, the first spinoff is going to center around Annabelle the doll and is tentatively titled The Annabelle Story and is set to take place before the events of The Conjuring. Filming is set to start either at the end of the year or the start of next year, and Wan is set to have little-to-zero involvement as his frequent collaborator cinematographer John R. Leonetti is set to direct.
Leonetti's previous works as director include Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and The Butterfly Effect 2, so, you know, do set your standards very high.
As for the sequel, producers are reportedly keen to get Wan back for the film, with the rumour mill saying that the film is going to be based around one of the Warren's cases in England which involves a pair of possessed sisters. So The Exorcist2. Great. Really looking forward to wetting ourselves in the cinema at that one.
