Fans of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding universe will be delighted to hear that the first plot details of the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them have been released by Warner Bros.
The new film is slated for release on November 16, 2018, and principal photography for it starts today.
The movie, which remains untitled, sees the return of the four main cast members of the first Fantastic Beasts – namely Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Katherine Waterston (Tina), Alison Sudol (Queenie) and Dan Fogler (Jacob). As has previously been reported, they are joined by Johnny Depp in the role of Gellert Grindelwald and Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore.
Credence, whose fate was a mystery at the end of the first film, will return, played again by Ezra Miller. New cast members include Zoë Kravitz, who plays Leta Lestrange, a woman from Newt’s past; and Callum Turner who will play Theseus Scamander, a war hero and Auror, as well as Newt’s older brother.
According to the plot description released, the new film “opens in 1927, a few months after Newt helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. However, as he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help…” and the help comes from Newt and his friends.
As with all sequels, there is some travel abroad involved with the universe expanding to the wizard communities of New York, London and Paris.
