With Finding Dory out this month, and Toy Story 4, Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2 all in development, there was a fear that Pixar was starting to lose focus on the original storytelling it build its brand on.
However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pixar president Jim Morris sought to reassure fans that the studio was as committed as ever to developing new ideas and bringing original films to the big screens.
Morris explained "Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don’t make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on."
Pixar are currently working on six feature films, the three sequels listed above, and three brand new stories. The Incredibles 2 will be released in 2019, but after that, there are no other sequels planned.
