A Snow White remake promoted at the Cannes Film Festival has come under fire for appearing to ‘fat shame’ the animated character.
Chloë Grace Moretz lends her voice to the new animated movie, which is called Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs.
The poster for the film, which is a South Korean-produced spoof that is currently in post-production, depicts a short dumpy girl looking longingly at the slender Snow White. The tagline asks: “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?”
The ad was called out by a number of Twitter users, including plus-size model Tess Holliday, who is a body positivity advocate:

Speaking about misogynistic and body shaming publicity in Cannes... Being less thin and tall ≠ being less beautiful! #cannes2017 pic.twitter.com/r4f8fIQjBU

How did this get approved by an entire marketing team? Why is it okay to tell young kids being fat = ugly? 🤔ðŸ˜Â?@ChloeGMoretz pic.twitter.com/PVhgwluGTM

This is some major BS-the majority of American women who are that size shouldnt take their kids or buy anything related to that projectðŸ˜'

This is the epitome of what I don't want my kids to see......terrible.

Chloe Moretz has responded to the criticism, stating that she is ‘just as appalled and angry as everyone else’. She also said that she spoke to the producers about how she feels about the advertisements while also standing up for the movie itself:
I have now fully reviewed the mkting for Red Shoes, I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn't approved by me or my team

Pls know I have let the producers of the film know. I lent my voice to a beautiful script that I hope you will all see in its entirety https://t.co/IOIXYZTc3g

The actual story is powerful for young women and resonated with me. I am sorry for the offense that was beyond my creative control https://t.co/HZP2ydPCAX

Red Hells & the 7 Dwarfs producer Sujin Hwang told CNN that the ad campaign has now been brought to an end, but from the looks of the trailer (which features Snow White undressing to reveal her 'secret' and a teaser involving some questionable gestures, to put it lightly), this movie should probably just be shelved altogether:
