District 9 was, for us, one of the best sci-fi films of the last twenty years.
It perfectly mixed that Paul Verhoeven subversiveness with found-footage aesthetic and introduced us to Sharlto Copley, who we also love.
Director Neill Blomkamp is currently working on something with a similar vibe in the form of Chappie, a film about a sentient robot that's learning to live and exist in the world.
The trailer has us intrigued and excited, but we'll be waiting some time before we see anything on that.
In the meantime, however, Blomkamp has been posting some concept art from a sadly-defunct take on Alien.
That's right - the guy who did District 9 was working on an Alien film. CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE?
The director was somewhat coy, simply stating: "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though."
Blomkamp shared some artwork that has us clenching our fists and wishing that Ridley Scott didn't bother with Prometheus.
Have a gawk. The thought of him not doing this film crushes us like a friggin' Power-Loader.

That's that weird ship they found in the first one. And the second one. Was it in the third one? We've sort of blocked the third one out. Tywin Lannister was in it, though. That was pretty cool.
Cyborg Hicks is cool and all, but what we REALLY want is a Cyborg Bill Paxton that keeps screaming "GAME OVER, MAN!" at the top of his lungs.
Sigourney Weaver has a half-human / half-Xenomorph mesh. Amazing.
